Crack in the World 1965 Full Movie
Synopsis
Thank God it's only a motion picture!
Dr. Steven Sorenson plans to tap the geothermal energy of the Earth's interior by means of a thermonuclear device detonated deep within the Earth. This experiment causes a crack to form and grow within the Earth's crust, which threatens to split the earth in two if it is not stopped in time.

Dr. Stephen Sorensen (Dana Andrews) is one of those bloody know-it-all scientists who thinks he knows what's best for the world. Although, to be fair he has recognised that the world is heading towards an energy crisis and sees geothermal energy as a possible solution. It's sound thinking, just ask the Icelanders.
But you do have to question the reasoning of a man who has decided it's a good idea to dig a really deep hole in Tanganyika, into which he is going to fire a nuclear warhead in order to release the molten magma below. not that he's entirely to blame because someone had to give him the warhead in the first place and the UN (as represented by…

Scientists plan to drop a nuclear bomb into the center of the Earth to tap into the magma for an energy supply. Certainly nothing can go wrong with that plan! It's also not a good sign when the three lead scientists seem just as worried about their love triangle as they are about the impending doom of the world (there is probably a bit too much melodrama here). I'm usually not one to nitpick the science in these type of disaster movies but wow, is there some really iffy stuff when it comes to the nature, solutions and outcome of the disaster. The film starts out amusing because of how ridiculous the science and scenarios are, becomes less interesting in the middle when it turns into explosion after explosion, then circles back to being absurd at the very end.

5.9/10. I love a good disaster film, this wasn't the best one out there but it was still an enjoyable watch with some dramatic and tense moments. I would recommend this one, but don't go into it expecting is to be a solid 10.

Given the B-movie budget stock footage makes up for most of the scenes of mayhem and disaster though we also have some nice miniature work in the later part of the film. (Hmmm, stock footage.... when did that stop being a thing. Kinda missing it.)
A large emphasis is placed on the love triangle between Dana Andrews, Janette Scott and Kieron Moore who also provides some nice beefcake moments. He's an Irish actor who seems to not be remembered anymore at all but has quite a presence and had a career spanning several decades.
Dana Andrews' character appears to have some kind of cancer but the C words never gets mentioned at all which was quite typical for its time. He also never tells his wife which strains believability a bit when he physically disintegrates in front of her and she still believes it's only something small.
Overall quite entertaining and definitely worth a watch.

I figured this was going to be a B movie, but it's really closer to a B+ movie. There was a real budget here, with decent special effects (including miniatures that are a cut above most Japanese monster movies of the era), a solid cast, and a real cinematographer.
Of course, the story is pretty absurd, the plot points are telegraphed way in advance, and the moral of the love story (a younger woman can never really love her older husband, and the young buck will win the day) is trite. But I enjoyed the ride.

Crack in the Worldisn't all it's cracked up to be. A stupid egotistical scientist wants to harness the magma at the center of the earth and instead unleashes death and destruction. His wife said "take it easy Steve, you only made a little mistake, an honest one" and then she erupted with "your judgement was wrong!" Poor Steve. His wife then leaves him. Oh, and then there is a little subplot of trying to save the world by unleashing more destruction.
I never got interested in the movie with all the stock footage of nuclear explosions, volcano eruptions, and lava flows. The scientific explanations were all a little thin and silly. Two of the little miniature destruction scenes were ok though.

Just days after watching The Day The Earth Caught Fire (1961), I find myself watching another cautionary tale from the birth of the atomic age. While this is more colourful (It's in colour for a start), it's far less effective. The action revolves around the scientists in this one though. Dr Stephen Sorenson (Dana Andrews) whose scientific hubris brings about the disaster of the title. Sorenson's wife Dr Maggie Sorenson (Jeanette Scott) and Sorenson's right hand man Dr Ted Rampion (Kieron Moore). Rampion also happens to be Maggie Sorenson's former lover. This means all three form the corners of a melodramatic love triangle that is as unconvincing as the movie's science. However, the movie's biggest problem is that for the most part it's just very dull. Rarely has the world being on the edge of destruction felt so humdrum.

Daft science aside (THE CORE, made 40 years later, wasn't much smarter), this is an excellent yarn, told with admirable, fast-paced economy by director Marton. The psychosexual tension among the three leads oozes like magma, yet the "earthy" thrills are always in the foreground, and the outstanding art direction (Eugene Lourie) and score (John Douglas; his work is available on CD, paired with the score from PHASE IV) belie a modest budget. I'm not sure how the ending "saves" the world, however.

Why I watched this one? I have read about this movie for many years now...and this was the first chance to see it.
What is this one about? A dying scientist pushes forward his project to tap through to the Earth's magma layer, with results that threaten to destroy the Earth as we know it.
My thoughts on this one? Ok....at times the acting is pretty bad....and at times the special effects are pretty weak....and at times the story just gets silly. That being said....I found this to be an entertaining movie. Most of the movie takes place on a James Bond massive looking set. So it should come as no surprise when the set gets blown to pieces at the end of the movie. Final thought: Just a good campy movie...that gets extra bonus points for now being 50 years old.

Looking good on blu-ray and I liked this but when they used the stock footage of the nuclear explosion spongebob always uses ...

A fun little end of the world romp. Dana Andrews, Keiron Moore and Janette Scott were fun to watch. Great location shoots and some cool lava scenes.

By exploding an atomic warhead hundreds of miles underground, scientists of the multinational endeavor Project Inner Space hope to harness the unlimited energy of the molten rock at the earth's core. Such an accomplishment would revolutionize and transform the world's economic systems. Driving the project to completion is its head, the brilliant Dr. Stephen Sorenson (Dana Andrews, THE FROZEN DEAD, HOT RODS TO HELL). Secretly dying of cancer, he dreams of making his mark on history before succumbing to the disease. None of his staff, not even his much younger scientist-wife Maggie (Janette Scott), knows of his illness. With the detonation of the warhead approved by world leaders, Sorenson and his colleagues prepare for the great moment. But Sorenson's one-time…
